Falkland Water Treatment Plant

Falkland Water Treatment Plant Upgrades

The CSRD owned Falkland water system was suffering from serious water discoloration that was caused during the treatment process of the well water. Gentech worked alongside Atec Systems Associates, a water treatment specialist, to design and implement a filtration system that would remove iron and manganese from the well water and resolve the discoloration issue. The major components of this project included:

  • 30m² building expansion to accommodate the filtration system;
  • backwash settlement tanks and drainage piping; and
  • a 125m³ rock pit for disposal of backwash water.

Gentech completed percolation tests on-site and used the results to select the preferred location and size of rock pit. Gentech was responsible for field investigation works, preliminary and detailed design, obtaining permits with approving authorities, project coordination with other consultants, site inspection, record documentation, and liaison with regional district representatives, sub-consultants, and contractors. This project was completed in April 2017.
